Money makes the world go around! If you are in business you know that money is needed, but why do you need it?

Money Is The Life Blood Of Business

Not many businesses can run without money. It is the life blood of your business. Without money there is a lot you cannot accomplish and that can really hold you back. So if someone says “I don’t do it for the money”, it’s probably because they already have lots of money!

Below are some good reasons why you DO need money to run a successful business.

Marketing

Not many businesses can survive without marketing themselves. Sure there are ways to do some free marketing, but most of the ways to do free marketing take lots of time, don’t work really well, or you can get lucky with a viral video.

Most effective marketing costs money! Some people think social media marketing is free yet. That is far from the truth social media marketing costs money for ads and for paying people for their time to run effective social media marketing campaigns. Newspaper ads cost money, Yellow Page ads cost money, online ads cost money, radio ads cost money! I could keep going, but I think you get the point. If you really want to keep growing then you need money for a marketing budget. Free marketing will only get you so far. Since I’m in social media marketing let me tell you again “Social media marketing is not free!” It will cost you money or lots of time so remember that when you tell someone that you can just do some free social media marketing, cause any experienced marketer will laugh out loud. (literally)

Equipment and Tools

Most businesses need some sort of equipment or tools to operate. Whether it is digital marketing tools, computers, printers, social media marketing tools, heavy equipment for industrial work, cash registers, displays for retail, or tools of the trade for other industries most of that costs money. Without the needed tools your business can’t operate or finish the jobs required.

Payroll

If you employ people you definitely need money to pay them! Money is needed to pay employees on time. If you don’t have enough money then you can’t employ anybody to help with your businesses growth.

It’s OK if you are just a one person company. There is nothing wrong with that, but if that’s the case you must consider the fact that if something happens to you the business will suffer. If you were to get sick who will be around to keep your business going? Being a one person company is also like being a slave to the business. It can’t run without you so you cannot leave it alone for very long. That is just something to consider when planning your business structure.

Bookkeeping and Accounting

Your business will need to keep good records for Uncle Sam. This can be done by you without any extra money needed, but it will take up lots of your valuable time. So unless you are good at it or keep up with your businesses bookkeeping I suggest that you hire someone to do this for you. It will save you time and headaches in the long term. Knowing your businesses financials is very important. If you hire someone that can keep the financials up to date it will give you more data to look at to keep growing and to keep things in order.

Insurance

Most businesses need some kind of insurance. It could be property insurance, car insurance, workers comp, liability insurance, etc. If you don’t need insurance now that is good, but eventually you will need some different kind of insurances to keep your business protected.

To Pay Yourself

This is a big one because I’ve heard business people say that you can’t pay yourself for awhile when running a business. That is crazy! I know that you can’t be taking out lots of money and spending it on this and that for yourself, but you need to eat, pay the bills, pay the rent/mortgage, gas for your vehicle, etc. If I did not have money to pay for those things I wouldn’t be able to concentrate on the business itself! I would be too worried about my personal bills and the bill collectors calling all the time to concentrate.

So yes you do need to pay yourself. Find a way to pay yourself while building your business because if you are worried about all your own bills it will kill your focus. I know this for a fact it has happened to me and it is horrible because when you lose focus because of personal bills it can really drain your energy! I’d rather know that at least my bills are paid so that I can concentrate on building and growing my business. Nothing beats peace of mind.

Building Business Credit

If you don’t have money it’s hard to get credit cards for your business. This will make it harder to build credit for your business for when you need more money in the future. Try to get at least one business credit card and pay it on time every month to start building your business credit.

 

As you can see there are plenty of reasons you need money to run your business. It really is the life blood of a business.

No, money is not everything, hopefully you are in business because you love what you do. Just remember that in order for your business to survive and grow you must have a good cash flow. Money is not something most business can live without for very long. If your business is not generating money yet then it isn’t a business. Not until you start generating some money to get the necessities your business needs to grow and keep growing.

Your business can survive without making money right now if you have funded the business yourself or with investor money, but the main point is to make money so that the business can support itself. Make a plan that will get you on track to generating money as soon as you can.

Anytime you post stuff on social media it gets you seen. Depending on how many followers you have and how you use your hashtags you can be seen by a lot of people on every post. This applies to any social media type of post; pins, snaps, tweets, etc. the more people you can get in front of the better. In this article I compare how social media posts can relate to a huge billboard in terms of marketing.

Each Post Is Like A Billboard

Think about it each person that sees your post is like a car going by a billboard. If you have a good social media presence it’s like your billboard is on a super busy road and lots people are seeing it! If you don’t have a good social media presence or a very small audience it is like a billboard on a slow backstreet. Every time you post people will see it. What you decide to put on your billboard (your post) is up to you.

Make It Eye Catching

Because like a billboard on a busy road people are cruising through their social media to find interesting stuff. If it doesn’t catch their attention they will keep cruising and not even pay attention. Make sure that when you post a video, picture, graphic, etc that it will really GRAB their attention!

I know it’s impossible to have every single post be so great that people stop dead in their tracks to look at it and care. The ideal is to do it enough times that it makes an impact. Not every post has to be amazing.

Create some content that will get people talking and engaging. Don’t promote too much. I stick to the 90/10 rule, 90% good helpful and fun content, 10% promoted posts. Sometimes I don’t even promote my site or social media marketing services for a week or two. I just put out the best content I possibly can. I would rather build an audience and build relationships than promote. I think it is more effective in the long run.

Impressions Are The Cars Going By

Each car that goes by a billboard are the views it may receive. That’s why it costs more to put a billboard on a busy road because the potential for more views is there.

Same thing with social media posts, the more impressions the better. You want your post to get in front of as many people as possible. That’s why it is important to build your social media presence! The bigger your audience the bigger your reach. Remember just because there are lots of impressions on a post doesn’t mean all those people really payed attention. It’s just a stat to show you how many people may have seen your post.

“Likes” Are The Actual People Looking At Your Billboard

Think about it, when people like your post they are really paying attention to what you just posted on social media. Like a billboard it’s pretty much like someone driving in a car looking up at your billboard and saying “Cool I like that!” They acknowledged your post and that is very awesome!!

Fun To Be Social

“Comments” Are Them Telling You How Much They Liked Your Billboard

When someone comments they are telling you that they really payed attention to your post. They will let you know what they thought about it or add something to the post with a comment. They might even have something negative to say or disagree. Either way they were intrigued enough to stop and leave a comment!

When people comment it’s like they took the time to email you or call you about your billboard. That means that they really liked it, hated it, or wanted to add to it. All good things because you got their attention!

“Shares” Are Like People Taking Pictures Of Your Billboard And Showing Their Friends

When someone shares your post they really, really like it! They like it so much that they shared it to show others. How cool is that!! I love when people share my posts because for one it will reach more people, and second that means it was good enough to get people to share and that means I added some great value or entertainment for them on that post.

When you apply this to the concept of a billboard it’s like they snapped a picture of your billboard and sent it to their friends to show them the cool billboard they just seen! When they do that people who wouldn’t have seen the billboard before now will get to see it!

 

Posts and Billboards Are Pretty Similar

They are similar in the fact of how people see your business. I used to pay attention to billboards and think to myself I wonder if the businesses who pay to put those billboards up actually get any results? Some do some don’t I assume.

The point of this article was to show you how social media can be applied to how old school offline marketing was or is. About 15 years ago that was one of the few ways to reach a big audience. Today with social media we can reach big audiences with the click of a mouse and with still very low cost.

We Are Living In A Great Age For Marketing!

Social media has made it so much better and easier to reach large audiences that I think a lot of people don’t realize how lucky we are now. Our capacity to get creative and gain great exposure for business is so much more attainable these days.

A billboard will cost over $1,000 per month in most cities plus set up fees. With social media you can get that same kind or better exposure for free! This goes to show the power of social media in today’s business world.

Work hard and build your social media through posting great content, engaging with your audience, and answering customer questions and you will have some great marketing power right at your fingertips!

Instagram Adds New “Stories” Feature

If you haven’t payed any attention yet you might not know that Instagram added a new feature called Instagram Stories to their platform. It is very similar to that of Snapchat.

What Is The New Instagram Stories Feature?

It is a lot like Snapchat Stories in which you can create a story out of video and/or pictures. You can then add text and emoji’s to your videos and pictures to make them stand out. The videos and pictures you create only last for 24 hours and they disappear.

Instagram Stories is similar with short videos and lasting only 24 hours before they disappear. This way you can keep posting and put out content without over posting on your Instagram Feed.

Stories will also be seen by a specific algorithm set by Instagram. Basically people you are closer to will see your stories first. Instagram has rolled out an algorithm for the home feed already a few months ago. Since Instagram is owned by Facebook they are heading in the same direction with organic reach in order to get businesses to pay for more people to see their posts.

When Will The New Instagram Stories Feature Be Available?

Instagram just rolled out the new features. I have an android and when I updated the app it was on there. You should have the new Instagram Stories feature as well. If not update your app and it should be on there after the update.

You will see the Instagram Stories at the top of your home feed. All you need to do is click on the profile picture and watch the story. You can also access an Instagram Story by clicking on a profile picture on their actual profile.

If you want to add a picture or video to your story all you have to do is tap the plus (+) button at the top of your home feed. You can also add text, drawing and emoji’s before posting it.

How Can You Use This For Social Media Marketing?

If you have used Snapchat you will know basically how this can be applied to social media marketing. There are no geofilters or custom filters yet so you won’t be able to apply those, but give it time I’m sure it’s coming!

If you haven’t yet used Snapchat and don’t know much about it you will need to get familiar with the Instagram Stories feature first and come up with some FUN ways to use it for social media marketing. It’s not hard just be creative once you get a feel for it. Add some videos of your products, office, storefront, employees, company events, etc. Keep people engaged with great content! The main thing is to keep it FUN!!!! That’s what it’s all about right?? If you aren’t having fun with it you will lose interest fast and give up on it. Here is an article about having fun on social media.  Like any other marketing it is up to you how you want to engage people and how you want them to perceive your business/brand.

What Do I Think?

I think it is great! It is a new way to engage with people on Instagram. It is a new way to get more views on Instagram. The way I see it the more views and impressions the better. Marketing is all about getting in front of people and the new Instagram Stories feature is just another way to reach people. It also give me more ways to be creative and fun.

On the down side it means that I have to basically create stories and post daily on both Snapchat and Instagram. I will continue to do so, but it is more work and more time consuming so that is a negative. Also Snapchat views could go down on my account because more people are using the Instagram Stories. Hopefully there is not much of a decline. Who knows Snapchat may respond with another cool new feature that we can all get excited about in the near future! Social media is always changing and it is always important to keep up on the new changes. As a business owner and a social media marketer it is even more important.

Either way I will think about the positive and I look forward to using the new Instagram Stories feature more and more!

Fear Is Just A State Of Mind

If you realize that most of your fears and worries are just a state of mind it will be easier to overcome them. Most of what we fear or worry about almost never happens. Fear can creep into the mind at anytime for any reason. It’s up to you if you let it stay there.

Fear Can Lead To Good Things

For example I hate and fear making cold calls! I mean it sucks and there is really nothing fun about it to me. I like to talk to people, but when I cold call it feels like I am bothering them. So I rarely make cold calls I’d rather do some marketing to get some good warm leads. Just the thought of making cold calls is not fun! Some people like to do that and they are good at it, but I’m not. I can admit when I’m not good at something. I know it’s a state of mind and if I did it more it would become easier but I don’t care I’d rather do something that is a strength of mine and that is social media marketing! That helps me to generate leads and build relationships. It becomes easier to generate new business for me this way. So I took that fear of cold calling and became stronger at social media marketing!

You Either Embrace Fear Or Eliminate Fear

You can take your fear and let it make you stronger or you can eliminate it all together. You always get to choose it’s up to you to face your fears and use them to become limitless! Do what you can to become fearless don’t let the fear of something hold you back from your goals and dreams. Either you can use fear to your advantage and become stronger in another area like I did or eliminate it by facing it head on.

Become Limitless!!

Once you eliminate your fears you will become limitless! Be a lion, a shark, a tiger, a wolf!! Would you rather be fearful and never try something and die anyway or at least face your fears and say “I did it!!”

Be a beast and dominate those fears before they dominate you!

Take Action

A great way to overcome fear is to take action now! This way you won’t sit around thinking about the fear and letting it grow. If you take immediate action you will overcome a fear faster because you won’t have time to think about it. Become fearless and you will become limitless!
