Having a Great Partner Is Crucial For Success


One of the most important parts of being successful is to have a partner who believes in you and believes you can do big things. A person who will never give up on you. Having someone who will stand alongside you and support you in anyway necessary to help you both reach your goals.

Time To Talk

I never get to talk about this because I never know how or when to do it. My beautiful wife (Beth) believes in me with all her heart and soul and I couldn’t be more appreciative of this. We’ve been together over 15 years (as of writing this) and she still encourages me and tells me that I will be super successful. She has worked many, many hours to pay the bills while giving me the opportunity to create businesses and without the time she gave me I wouldn’t have accomplished much. One business worked out and many others didn’t, but I never let that stop me. All it takes is one business to take off! I think that every successful person should have a partner like I have. A person who will stand beside you no matter how hot the fire gets! This article is to thank her for all she has done and to let everyone know that nobody can do it all alone.

A Great Friend

I am the luckiest man on this earth! I found a woman who believes in me and who has always believed in me no matter what. She is my wife and my best friend! Without her I might have given up on my dreams long ago. Having someone like her has always given me a reason to keep going. She believes in me more than I believe in myself. Sometimes I wonder why does she believe in me so much? Is there something about me I don’t see? Can I really be that convincing to her that I will be a huge success? I’m still not sure, but I do know she really does believe in me big time! She is not just my wife she is my best friend!

Stay Away From The Wrong People

I always had big dreams and couldn’t stand working for someone for as long as I could remember. I can not explain it, but the thought of punching a clock made me feel sick. I have worked many places in my younger years and I never ever enjoyed any of them. Sure I got by and did my time, but could never imagine myself working at any of those places my whole life. It’s a mindset I have and I can’t change it and never would. Life is short and we are not meant to be here to be average and just get by.

People who have the “average” mindset never understood my thinking. I have heard dumb comments by people who would never take a risk and build their own company. These same people even had the nerve to give me career advice! Never take advice from someone who doesn’t think and act above average! I won’t even talk to some of these people anymore because I don’t want their average thinking rubbing off on me. Stay away from those people because after awhile no matter how you try to shake it off it will rub off on you.

I’ve had people try to discourage me long ago even when I was 18 and 19 years old when I was trying to start an events company. They would tell me that maybe I should get a “real job” and that I need to start thinking realistically. A real job!? What the hell is that anyway! Is a real job something they think as real success? The same people who gave that advice long ago didn’t get anywhere since then and some even went backwards. Wow!… I am lucky I didn’t take their amazing advice! Haters will try to bring you down to their level. It will only work if you let them get to you. Embrace your haters and let them serve as more wood for your fire.

I am stubborn and I am glad for that. By stubborn I mean I wouldn’t take bad advice and get discouraged. I didn’t care if it took me 30 years I was going to be a success! Don’t ever listen to people if you wouldn’t want their life. Take advice only from successful people that you look up to. Stay away from the miserable people who will always try to bring you down. It’s really easy, just stay busy pursuing your dreams and you won’t have time for those people. If you are are busy working on your own success you won’t even hear them when they come within shouting range because you will be too focused to really care what they are saying.

She Always Believed In Me

Having such a great wife that believes in me makes me feel successful even on tough days. I don’t need to hear anyone else’s advice or criticism all I need to hear is her sweet voice always encouraging me. Even after writing this post I can’t put it into words how lucky I am to be her husband. Some things are too hard to put into words. I could not even give a speech at our 10 year anniversary party because I could not find the right words to explain my feelings for her. I just know that what we have could never fully be put into words and that is a good thing. If it’s so good you can’t explain it, then it must be beyond this world!

If you need to go around trying to convince people how good your relationship is then it probably isn’t that good. Some people try to make their relationship look so great on social media. It looks all good, but that is only a front for some people. (not all, just some people) When it’s genuine you will know and won’t have to explain it or put on a show for others. That is what my wife and I have and it’s amazing!

Beth always, always, always believed in me and I am so grateful for that. She never doubted me and always knew that I would do more than just work a basic job. She was willing to suffer financially during some tough times (years) even when the future wasn’t looking so good. Nobody wants to suffer financially because it sucks and it sucks bad! I’ve been there too many times to count and will never go back! My wife never gave up on me in those tough times and because of that I was able to keep moving forward. Even when I didn’t have enough money to even buy business cards!

When things were bad financially she wouldn’t even let me get a job because she knew it could take my focus away from our big goals. She was willing to struggle and deal with some temporary discomfort for the big picture. Some people give up because the temporary discomfort is too much to handle. Not us!

You just keep moving forward even if it’s one small step at a time! Every single little step will help lead you to your bigger goals. The main thing is to keep going! Don’t take the easy way out and quit. Adjust your plans if needed, but don’t quit. Having a great wife has helped me to realize some of my goals and to know that I must keep working on them.

Stand Side By Side

My wife and I are always side by side as a team. I would never say I have a strong wife behind me. No, she is right beside me ready to take on anything and anyone! A super strong woman who made me super strong! When we are standing side by side nothing can stop us. Nobody can discourage us and no person or situation can ever defeat us. We are a great team and if you can find a partner like that it will go a long way in your future success! Thank you Beth for everything and for never giving up on me and always standing by my side.

Still More To Do

I still have lots more to do in the business world and as long as I have my wife by my side I know I will conquer even more goals. I am now just getting the boulder rolling after years of pushing it uphill. The trick is to keep the momentum going! Success is a tricky thing because if you let up it could stop completely. Keep it going and don’t rest when things start to go your way. As a matter of fact when things start going your way hit it even harder because with all that momentum you will be able to achieve even greater success at an even faster rate.

It’s funny how nothing happens for a long a long time and after lots of work things start to get rolling more and more. If I wouldn’t have changed courses in business so many times in the past I could be a lot further with my goals, but I learned from the past and gained so many more skills to make my current business “Fun To Be Social” a success. If there’s anything I learned that is of the most value is to never ever, ever, ever, ever give up! If things aren’t going in the right direction just change your approach, but don’t give up.

Having a great partner in life will be a big key to success. If you are lucky enough to have that don’t ever let them down if they believe in you! Just think about that every time you want to quit. Think about how you don’t want to let your partner down because anyone who believes in you and encourages you should never be let down. They should be able to see you succeed so that they knew they weren’t wrong for trusting in you. They should be able to celebrate with you in your success.

I don’t think I could be a success if I had a wife who thought average and expected me to think the same. My wife never really thought big before meeting me, but since being together she realized that going by the “status quo” was not the way life was supposed to be lived. Anybody can live an average life. That’s why the middle class is the biggest class in our society. Schools taught us that is where we should live. People are conditioned at a young age to get a job, save money, and have a family. It’s a trap that most fall into. Whether you agree with me or not it’s the cold hard facts. Being average and shooting for mediocre goals is a crappy way to live a life!

If being average was so great they would start writing books on how to be average. Very few people would read a book about being average. That’s why there are so many books about success and that’s why some people have made lots and lots of money talking and writing about success. People like Tony Robbins, Grant Cardone, Napoleon Hill and many more have made careers about thinking above average.


Strive For More!

After years of being together our goals have gotten bigger and we talk a lot about our future all the time. We always set new goals to strive for and that keeps our relationship fresh. Couples always need something to look forward to. Beth and I will always have something new to look forward to and new goals to strive for. It’s what makes life exciting and it’s what makes our relationship great.

Quick Story: Just two years ago we decided to leave the cold Wisconsin winters and moved across the country to Nevada. We wanted to enjoy the warm beautiful, sunny winters. It was a big move and there was a lot of uncertainty, but we had faith our plans would work out and that I could continue my business out in Nevada. My wife left a job she loved and took the risk by moving not knowing if she would find something she liked as much. I’m proud to say it worked out great and I’m glad we took that risk. We are doing better now than we ever have. Business is going great and my wife found a job she loves! We even get to go back to Wisconsin to visit family and friends in the summer. The risk and uncertainty of the move might have scared a lot of couples from ever doing it, but we embraced the challenge together.

Don’t be afraid of change and risk. Living in the safe zone is not a way to live, put yourself out there and take on challenges together and if your relationship is strong it will make it stronger and better.


In Conclusion

I will never let my wife down because she has never let me down! Always remember that having a partner who believes in you is a gift! Work together and set BIG goals together and success will be so much sweeter!

How To Set Goals For Your Social Media Marketing

No Goals, No Real Plan

If you don’t have goals you really have no plan. You will need to put together some real goals that you hope to accomplish with your social media marketing campaign. Without goals you will not know which direction to head, how much to spend, how much time it will take, what kind of return on investment (ROI) you will get out of it, etc. You will be like a ship with no direction.

I’ve worked with businesses that really had no clear cut goals for their marketing. I’m not just talking about social media marketing all marketing needs to be clearly defined!


Start With The Budget

Always start with the budget because you will need to know how much resources you will have to work with. This includes cash and time. I suggest that you start with a yearly budget and plan it out over the 12 months.

When dividing the budget into 12 months you will want to consider your busiest months and slowest months and figure out how much to put into those months. There is no one answer you can look at it different ways.

  1. Busy Months: If you put more marketing efforts in at this time you may make a lot more or you can put less money and save that money for the slow months.
  2. Slow Months: If you put more marketing efforts in at this time you may get a little more business during the slow times or you could just save that money and put it into the busy months to generate more revenue to make up for the slow months.

A lot of how you plan out your marketing budget will depend on your industry, location, money available, size of your company, and products/services.

Pro Tip: A good way to figure out a budget is to plan 70% and leave 30% open for adding to other marketing, or to current marketing that has been effective. Always leave some room to work with.


Where You Want To Invest Your Marketing Dollars

I always suggest that if you’re new or limited on resources start with only one or two social media platforms. This will give you time to get familiar with these social media platforms and to get good at them.

This also works really good for your budget planning. Try not to spread your money too thin by advertising on a lot of social media platforms. Stick with one or two and you will have more money and time to invest in those one or two social media platforms.

Let’s say you have $10,000 to invest in social media marketing for the year. If you are advertising only on Facebook you can make that $10,000 go a long way. If you were going to use that $10,000 on four social media platforms you only have $2,500 to invest on each.

If you can attack one social media platform with more resources you will be much better off than spreading your resources thin on multiple social media platforms. Pick the one social media platform that works best for your business and really crush it.

Pro Tip: Not sure which social media platform to start with? My suggestion is to pick the two that you think are best for reaching your demographic. Spend some time building an audience and learn which one gives you the best engagements.


Figure Out The Main Goal

Why are you doing social media marketing? Are you using it to get more leads, get more sales, build brand awareness, to connect with customers? You will need to figure out exactly why you are doing social media marketing in the first place.

Once you know your reason you can decide which platform is best to hit your goals. Don’t start a social media marketing campaign without knowing what you want out of it. Just remember that social media marketing is a marathon so don’t expect major ROI from the get go. (unless you have a huge marketing budget) If it were that easy everyone would be millionaires from using social media.

If fast sales are what you are looking for it probably won’t happen until you nurture relationships on social media. This can take time, but sales will come you just need to be patient. If you know this going into a social media marketing campaign it will reduce a lot of stress.

Define Engagement Numbers

A good way to tell if your social media marketing is going well is by engagements. If you are getting some good engagements that means your customers and followers are finding some value from what you are posting.

When defining your goals you will want to clearly define how many engagements you want per day, per week, or per month. When defining engagement numbers remember your budget and how much time you have to commit to social media. Keep your numbers reasonable so that you have a realistic goal to hit.

Remember also that organic reach is is dropping and getting free engagements is getting harder. You may have to pay for a big percentage of engagements through some advertising. This is something to consider when you define your engagement numbers.

Customer engagements are a way of building relationships with your customers online. That’s why I said not to expect a quick ROI on social media. Use engagements as a gateway to promote down the road as customers and followers look forward to your content.

If you are getting a good number of customer engagements you can use that trust you’ve built to promote your products and services. Just do it sparingly or give away free stuff to build an email list to generate leads.

What should my engagement goal be? A lot will depend on two things your budget and your time. If you have a person who handles your social media for you I’m sure that time is built into the budget. If you don’t have someone who handles your social media you need to factor in the time you have to commit to social media.

Start with a monthly goal and go from there. You can always adjust the goal after a couple of months. I like to keep things simple because a lot of people over complicate things. Just start with a monthly goal and you will be able to clearly define your engagements as you go.


In Closing

Setting goals for social media marketing is very important. You need to know why you are doing it in the first place. There is no reason just to do random posts here and there because you think it will be good for business. Most likely you would be wasting your time without clear cut goals.

50th Blog Post, Here Are 5 Great Tips I Learned

5 Blogging Tips

This is our 50th blog post!! Over the course of one year and fifty blog posts I learned a lot about successful blogging. I would like to share with you five great tips with you to help you with your blogging.


Let me start by saying that I did not like blogging at first because I am not really a writer and really had no ambitions to be one. I am in marketing and I love being creative, but not through writing. I want to be creative with ad campaigns and digital marketing strategies, social media marketing, etc.

Blogging was never something I never even considered when it came to marketing. They didn’t teach this to me when I was in college in the early 2000’s it wasn’t even a subject, but neither was social media marketing. Things have come a long way since then and I had to learn a lot on my own even though I have a degree in marketing (2004).

Having a blog on your website is very important in today’s business world. It is a great way to help your customers, creating internal links on your website, show your expertise, help you with SEO (search engine optimization), and have great content to share on your social media pages.

It can also serve as future content down the road if you needed it for a course, an ebook, or for a speaking engagement. You can reference some of your older blog posts to gather info needed for future endeavors. Just because a post is older doesn’t mean it won’t be useful in the future.

You can also use a blog to generate some great revenue after awhile. There are lots of bloggers out there making six or seven figure incomes. If you are good at it you can make a very good living.

I have written more than fifty blog posts because this business was actually named Rattlesnake Marketing in past years. I changed the name to reflect more on what we do, but I lost a lot of blog posts when I created the new website. So even though this is about my 50th blog post on this website I really have more experience than that.

OK, so let me dive into the five tips that I hope can help you with your blogging or future blogging endeavors.


Tip#1 – Quality Over Quantity

You will see some articles out there talking about “The longer the post the better” this is true in a way, but not a rule. I think that quality content is always better than quantity. Who cares if a post is 5,000 words long, but it is horrible and doesn’t entertain or add value. People don’t have time for long useless posts.

Most people skim posts and look for quick points that they can use from the article. I skim posts all the time and get the info I need quick. If I do it I know a lot of other people are doing the same thing.

Don’t worry how long your blog post is, focus on creating a quality blog post that can add some great value for your readers. You will want to write to help with your SEO, but focus on value first and work the SEO into your post.

The main takeaway here is a post between 500-1,000 words can be very useful when written well. I am not even concentrating on the length of this post and I ended up with 1,477 words in this article. All I am doing is trying to give you the best advice I can. I am not concentrating on the length of this post at all.

Longer posts are great, but only if they are useful or entertaining to the reader. Focus on quality content!


Tip #2 – You Will Get Better

Like I said earlier I did not really want to blog for this website, but as a marketer I knew it was important so I sucked it up and did it anyway. I doubt my earlier post were even that good. The first 25 posts are probably OK at best, but maybe that’s me being my own worst critic.

I am however more proud of my last 25 blog posts or so and even more proud of my last 10 blog posts.

I know that my next 50 blog posts will only get better and better. Just like anything you will get better at it over time. You will look back at some of your earlier posts and think “What a rookie!”

In order to get better you need to start! Whether you are good at writing or not, just get started and over time you will get better. Keep reading and educating yourself in the process to build up your skills.

It’s fine to doubt yourself we all do, but just keep going and learning and you will start to erase that doubt over time.

Tip #3 – Images Are Important

When I started out I would put only one image on each blog post. Now I try to put two or more in each blog post. Images are proven to keep people’s attention longer. They can help tell the reader what your article is about before they even start reading.

I suggest that at minimum you put at least two images in each blog post. This will also keep your readers attention rather than just having tons of text and no images.

Pro Tip: I use Canva for a lot of my blog images. (the header image in this post was made on Canva)

Pro Tip #2: Videos are great for putting in your blog post as well.

Tip #4 – It Takes Time

If you are just starting out with a new blog it will take time to grow it and to get a good following. Search engine optimization (SEO) can take awhile. Sometimes over a year for your blog to start getting some good traffic from the search engines.

It took me at least six months to really see any traffic on this website. It’s frustrating at first because it seems like all your work is going unnoticed. That is true at first, but if you keep at it people will notice and the hard work will pay off. Don’t look for a bunch of traffic at first. If you keep this in mind you won’t get discouraged and stop altogether. 

Just keep going and doing the best SEO that you can. If you have some money to invest maybe hire someone who is really good at SEO to optimize your site to get more organic traffic.

Set up Google Analytics to track how your blog traffic is growing and where the traffic is coming from. After a few months you will start to see what kind of content and blog posts are getting the best traffic. You can capitalize on that and create more of the same kind of content.

Tip # 5 – Always Promote Each Post

Every time I publish a post I post it on ALL of my social media platforms. This gets the word out fast about your new blog post.

If you have some money put a little money in promoting it on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest, etc. Doing some paid ads on social media will get you more visitors even faster. It doesn’t have to be a lot of money just put $10 – $20 in ads to promote it.

The key here is to get the word out as soon as possible and in as many places as you can. What’s the point of having a great blog post if nobody see’s it? Don’t be afraid to spend a few dollars to promote it. You put all that work into the blog post so paying a little money for more people to see it will be worth it.

Pro Tip: Always have a CTA (call to action) somewhere on you blog posts. Whether it be a phone number, email signup, contact us, etc. Just have something to let readers know what their next step is. I usually put this at the end of a blog post. (see below)

Tip #1 Follow Others In Your Niche

This is actually pretty easy to do and doesn’t take much time. Find other people or businesses in your niche and industry and follow them. This is a great way to connect with others who are in the same field as you and your business. It’s also a great way to see how their fans are interacting with them and how they respond to their fans.

A great way to do this is by doing a simple search of keywords for your niche. I am in social media marketing so when I look for others in my niche I search keywords like social media marketing, social media experts, social media tips, social media news, etc. This will bring up the right people to follow.

After you find the right people to follow by doing a keyword search you can click on some profiles to see the hashtags they are using in their posts. This is helpful because you can then click on some of the relevant hashtags they use and that will bring you to even more people and businesses to follow in your niche. Once you find others in your niche you can also click on their followers and people they follow to find more people to follow. This will help you pinpoint and find an even more targeted fan base.

You can do this everyday or at least a few days per week to start growing your Instagram following with the right people. You want to make sure that your followers are relevant to your industry and are potential customers. Using these techniques when follow other Instagram accounts will definitely help you grow your Instagram following.

Pro Tip: To prevent getting your account shutdown by Instagram don’t go overboard on following others. I recommend that you follow no more than 100 Instagram accounts per day. If you follow too many accounts in one day Instagram may flag your account as a spam account.


Tip #2 Leave Good Constructive Comments

I get so many spam comments on my Instagram accounts and it can be annoying. I will delete those comments as soon as I see them. Spamming others on their Instagram is bad practice. Don’t be that person!

Find relevant posts and leave good constructive comments on these posts. Let others know that you really do like their post. Leave some advice or let them know how awesome their post was!

A great way to show your expertise is to leave some great advice. You can add to their post with some experience you may have had. This will show them and their followers how knowledgeable you are in your niche. It will also lead to more Instagram followers because if people see that you give great advice and contribute value in comments they will follow you.

Tip #3 Post Great Content

In this day and age in marketing Content Is King! Your Instagram account is a great place to add awesome and amazing content. This is a great way to show your customers value.

If you are going to be great at social media marketing remember the first rule of great social media marketing is to put out great content. This can be pictures or video.

If you are promoting some products or services put out content that is eye catching and not just promotional. Use the filters on Instagram to make the content even more appealing. I use Canva to create a lot of my content it’s easy to use and the best part it’s free!

Look at what your competition is posting and find the content that they get really good engagement on and do the same. If it’s working for them it will work for you. Don’t just copy them, take the concept and make it your own. Use what is working for them and make your own content that will get some great engagement. After awhile you will know what kind of content works best for getting the most engagements on Instagram.
