Use Social Media To Tell Your Story

Fun To Be Social

If you own or run a business one thing that you should be doing is using social media to tell your story. Tell your story, tell your businesses story, tell your employees story. Doing this can give your customers an inside look at your business. They will feel more of a connection and this builds trust.

This is actually the first thing I do when we start working on a new social media marketing campaign for our clients. Step one of the process is to get a good profile of the company and find out what their story is, and why their customers should care about their story. This is an important step that we take to ensure that we can give our clients the absolute best way to use social media so that their customers can relate.

Without a story it’s hard to show your customers why they should care about your business. Years back it was not that common to really tell a story about a business. Most businesses would just buy T.V., newspaper, billboard, and magazine ads and just push their products. Today’s marketing is much different. If you just push products constantly now people will ignore you. Why? Because you are not adding any value to the relationship. You should give value first before expecting to ask for someones business.

Telling your story is a great way to add value by building a connection with your customers. When they need what you sell they will think of you because of the connection and familiarity you have build with them through your story.

Telling your story will also help build authority in your industry. Give great advice to people when they ask. Write a blog to keep them educated and informed about your niche.

Why Should They Care?

Your story should be interesting to get people to care. Tell your audience why you started the business. Let them know some of the challenges you are facing. Show them why your products or services are worth their attention. Most of all be FUN! Get them involved some way by asking your followers and customers for their feedback.

Keep Them Updated

As you are making progress with your business keep your followers and customers up to date on what is going on. People love transparency and transparency helps build trust. Be a transparent business and you will get much more engagement on social media.

In Conclusion

Don’t just be boring and post basic stuff on social media. Let your audience in on your story. Be transparent so that they can follow along with your business story. Bring attention to the employees and management. Don’t hide behind a logo and expect people will connect with you on a personal level. Go out today and tell your story on social media!

How To Use Social Media If You Own A Car Dealership

car dealership

The next article in our “Your Business Series” is on how to use social media if you own a car dealership. Owning or running a car dealership is tough and competitive. Social media marketing can greatly benefit a car dealership if it is done right.

Your Business Series Article #4 – How To Use Social Media If You Own A Car Dealership

So you own a car dealership or maybe you manage one and you are wondering how you can use social media to bring in more business to your car dealership and sell more cars don’t worry we got you covered!

Live Video

If you own or manage a car dealership live video is a great social media tool to use. You have the power to instantly let your customers see what you have going on at the car dealership. Some ways you could use live video are;

  • Product Demos: Show your automobiles in action, show off the great benefits of certain vehicles. Do this live and give demonstrations to show why they should buy that vehicle. If they can see the benefits live it might peak their interest more!
  • Sales Events: If you are having a big sales event going on, put that on live video. Give a tour of the building and car lot and show off the sale prices! Tell your live audience of other things going on during the sales event like free food, drinks, etc.
  • Introduce Sales Staff and Management: Use live video to show off your staff and have them do a “take over” for a day so that they can show off their personality to potential customers.
  • Repair Shop: If your car dealership has a repair shop attached, do a live video and talk about the benefits of why your repair shop is a good place to bring a vehicle for repairs. Also let customers see some of the prices of basic repairs and specials so that they have an idea. Use the live video to tell them about any awards you may have won for the repair shop.
  • Answer Questions: If you get a decent sized audience for your live videos you will have people who ask questions and leave comments. This is a great way to instantly connect and maybe even make a sale that very day! Make sure to answer back during the live broadcast.

More Live Video Tips

Show Off Happy Customers

A lot of car dealerships do this and it’s a good thing. Showing happy people standing by a car they just bought is good for business. The mistake I see a lot is that too many car dealerships ONLY do this. Don’t believe me look up a local car dealership and chances are most of their posts are people standing by a car they just bought. There is way more to social media marketing than just posting a generic picture of the same thing over and over.

Don’t get me wrong this is a great way to show off some happy customers and you should do this, but don’t get stuck in the rut of only showing customers by their new car purchase. Expand your horizons and change it up a bit.

Updates On New Inventory

The car industry is always changing with new and improved vehicles and features. Use social media to tell your customers about the new inventory that you have or will be getting.

Community Events and Charities

If your car dealership is heavily involved in the community (and it should be) social media is a great way to show others what you care about. Talk about the charities you support. Show off pictures of teams or events that you sponsor. Give people that sense that you do care about the local community. Don’t do it to brag, just post things to show others that you care and to maybe even get more support for the local charities and events.

Updates and Improvements

If you have some new updates and improvements happening to the building you can show your customers what is happening on social media. Post pictures and videos of the improvements as they happen! Bring your customers along for the ride (no pun intended) on the improvements you are making to the business and the building. Tell them how the new improvements will help with the overall customer experience! Invite them down to come check out the new improvements or promote a Grand Opening.

Share Relevant Information

There is always something new to talk about in the automotive industry. Find good articles that you think your customers will like to read and share them on your social media. Are there new safety regulations taking effect? Share an article or video about it. Keep your customers educated and up to date and they will remember you when they are thinking about buying there next car.

Recalls

If you sell cars and you know that there is a massive recall on a certain model post about it on your social media pages. When you post about it tell them how they can take the next step to get their vehicle fixed. Be proactive to show your customers that you care about them and their safety.

In Closing

There are so many ways to be fun and effective on social media if you own a car dealership. Don’t fall into the trap of just posting the same old stuff over and over again. Get creative to keep your customers and fans engaged. If you can do that you can create loyal customers who are happy that they follow you. Keeping your social media fun will only have your customers looking forward to your next post!

5 Fun Ways To Use Snapchat For Business

5 Ways To Use Snapchat For Business

If you use Snapchat for business you know how fun and useful it can be for business. Maybe you tried it a little bit just to see if it’s worth it or maybe you never even tried it. There are so many ways to use Snapchat for business to keep your customers engaged and coming back to view more!

Let’s talk about five simple ways you can use Snapchat for business to build an audience and build awareness for you brand.

#1 Flash Sales

Snapchat is a great platform to do short term sales also known as flash sales. Since snaps only last 24 hours before they disappear it is simple to do a flash sale.

Give your customers a promo code that they can use, but make sure to let them know it’s only good for a short time. It can be good for only two hours or as long as three days. Don’t make the offer good for much longer than the three days. Keep it short to create urgency!

If you do flash sales once in awhile your followers will want to watch your snaps more to see if you have any good sales. This works really well because your customers will come in more often if you have some good flash sales.

#2 Events That You Attend

Do you attend events in your area or events that are related to your industry? Snapchat is a good platform to show your audience some of the events you are attending. It doesn’t take long just pull out your phone and post some interesting snaps of the event.

If the event you are at is a local event it will get others interested in attending the event if they are local also. If they see you are at the event it can also be a good chance to meet some of your customers!

If it is an event related to your industry you can post some snaps that educate your audience on the industry. It also shows them that you care a lot about your industry and that you attend events to learn more and grow. This can go a long way in establishing yourself as an expert in the industry you are in.

 #3 Product Demos

Your customers will like to see your products being used. Snapchat gives you a great chance to do some product demos. Make the snaps interesting and give people a reason to watch them. Try to be fun and don’t make it look like an infomercial. Just simply explain how the product works and show it in action. Talk to your audience and don’t oversell the product. You’re not Billy Mays!

Get some of your employees to use the product while snapping. Make it funny if possible. Adding a sense of humor can build more of a personal connection with your audience. Adding humor will definitely show off the fun side of you and your business!

Fun Ways to Use Social Media

#4 Educate Your Audience

Social media is the perfect way to show your audience and customers your expertise. Use Snapchat to educate your customers on things in your industry. Give them great tips and advice for free! The more value you can give for free the more business you will earn in the future.

As you educate and give great advice people will come to you when they need what you sell. You will establish yourself as an expert in the industry.

Here’s a good example: Let’s say you own an auto repair shop. You can use Snapchat to show how you are replacing an alternator. You can go over how it’s done step by step. Give them a complete guide on how it’s done.

How does this get you more business? With the example above if you gave a good tutorial on how to replace an alternator people will think of you when their alternator goes out. They will remember the snaps and how you showed them what needs to be done. Two things will happen they will try to do it themselves from what you taught them or they don’t feel like dealing with it and they bring the car to you to get the alternator fixed or replaced.

If they like the service you offered on that alternator repair you just earned a customer for life! That’s the power of social media for business! Use this technique to get an advantage over your competitors. It’s also fun to educate your audience! I don’t make anything off this blog. I use it to educate others and if people like things they read in this blog they could turn into customers! Either way I like doing it and always intend to add value with every single blog article.

5 Blogging Tips I Learned

#5 Show Off Your Office or Store

This one is fun and easy! Just bring out the phone and start recording things from your office or store that is interesting. You don’t even need a plan just do it randomly. Let your customers see things from behind the scenes to make them feel part of the team.

Show off fun events at the office or store. Even if it’s just an employee event like an office party. If you do this your customers and potential customers will get an inside look at your office or store and a good feel for the company culture and employees. The more you show off your store and office the more people will feel a connection with your business. It will show off the personal side to your business.

In Closing

Snapchat is a great social media platform for business. It allows you to connect with your audience on a more personal level. The content only lasts for 24 hours so you can get creative. Experiment with some things that work. When you find what works for your business on Snapchat do more of it! Since the content disappears in 24 hours it doesn’t stick around forever so if something isn’t that great it won’t be on your profile forever. (Be careful with this because people can take screenshots so don’t post things you don’t want out there forever)

How To Use Social Media If You Own A Restaurant

Social Media Marketing For Your Restaurant

This is the first article in the new category Your Business Series. In this series of articles we will talk about how you can use social media for a specific industry.

Your Business Series Article #1 – How To Use Social Media If You Own A Restaurant.

Owning a restaurant is a fun yet complicated business venture. There are so many things that can go wrong. In fact most restaurants close within three years of opening. It’s a tough industry, but it also can be very rewarding. If operated right you can have a restaurant or multiple restaurants that runs itself with the right management. That could mean more time for you and your family. Of course it will take some hard work to get to that point. Social media marketing is part of that work. You will need to have a good social media marketing plan in place if you own a restaurant or multiple restaurants. If you are not sure if social media marketing is right for your business here are 10 reasons why you need to be doing social media marketing!

Get A Good Feel For Your Restaurant

Sit down and write down a good profile about your restaurant and how you want it to be perceived online. Do this before starting any social media marketing campaign. I compiled a nice list of Questions You Should Ask Before Starting A Social Media Marketing Campaign click on the link and feel free to use the questions when evaluating your restaurant and putting together a good profile that will help guide you when finding a personality for your restaurant.

Create Content!

Now that you put together a profile of your restaurant and know how you want your restaurant to be perceived online it’s time to start coming up with some good content for posting. This is the fun part! You want to come up with content that is eye catching and will get people to stop in their tracks while scrolling through their social media feed!

Good content can be graphics, pictures, links, live video or regular video just to name a few. Video is hot right now and growing bigger each day. As a restaurant a video or live video can be very powerful. Consider that when coming up with your social media marketing strategy.

Some Fun Content Ideas

  • Pictures of the food
  • Videos of the food
  • Pictures of people eating your food
  • Video of people eating your food
  • Pictures of any events the restaurant is hosting
  • Live Video of any events the restaurant is hosting
  • The Menu
  • Specials of the day
  • Customer Testimonials
  • Pictures of the restaurant
  • 360 degree videos of the restaurant
  • Live videos of your chefs making a meal and giving instructions and recipes on how to make a similar meal. Just don’t give away the secret recipes of your top or signature meals.
  • Pictures of any local sports teams you sponsor
  • Awards you have won as a restaurant
  • If you are remodeling or making some upgrades to the restaurant share them on social media.
  • The restaurant sign
  • Pictures of some of your top customers (with their permission)
  • Pictures and videos of your staff

That’s a short list I could go all day with all the stuff you could post! A restaurant can really be shown off on social media. The problem is a lot of restaurant owners don’t really know how to do it. Remember you cannot just keep promoting over and over. If your audience see’s this they will tune you out or worse unfollow you! Make the posts engaging and get people talking! Add value first and the customers will follow. Don’t worry about ROI right away. Social media marketing is a marathon and it will take time to build relationships. If you don’t rush it you will see results after awhile and it will be worth it.

How do I know that? Because as of the writing of this article that’s how I get about 70% of my business. Yes a social media marketing agency that walks the walk! I figured if we are a social media marketing agency we better live by what we preach and that means doing great social media marketing for our business as well as our clients. Some social media marketing agencies are not very good at promoting their own business. How are they going to be very valuable to you?? Before hiring a social media marketing agency make sure to check out their social media pages first. As a matter of fact if you want check out our social media pages. (you should see the social media buttons on this page)

Do Special Social Media Promotions

Ok back to how you can be more effective on social media. Another idea on top of the ones listed above is to do a special promotion only for people who follow you on social media. Instead of getting into all of that here is an article I wrote on How to do Facebook Fan Only Promotions. Once you read that you can apply the same principles to other social media platforms like Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, Google+, Snapchat, and any other social media platforms that come along in the future. Giving you fans a special promotion shows you care and that you appreciate that they follow you on social media. It’s a great way to build a rapport with your fans on social media.

Just Have Fun!

A restaurant is a fun business and you are only limited by your own creativity. I love helping restaurants with their social media accounts because it is one industry where you can get really creative with the marketing! Use some of the advice in this article along with some of the other articles mentioned in here. Put together a plan and go with it! If it is not working change it up. Marketing is just a series of many tests and trials to see what works. Keep the stuff that is working and throw out the stuff that isn’t working.

Restaurant Statistics From 2015

  1. 8 out of 10 consumers will visit a restaurant in off peak times. This is true especially if there is a deal and they can save money.
  2. 76% prefer to visit a restaurant with healthy options.
  3. 70% of smartphone users use their phone to look at menus before visiting a restaurant.
  4. 6 Out of 10 chefs encourage customers to take pictures of their food to post on social media!
  5. Sales in the restaurant industry top $566 Billion.
  6. 13 million people work in the restaurant industry in the U.S. roughly 9% of the workforce
  7. 89% of customers say they have researched a restaurant before dining there.

Thanks for reading I hope you learned some ways you can incorporate social media marketing into your restaurant! I would love to hear from you! Have you used any of the techniques from this article for your restaurant? If so let me know how it worked out for you in the comments below.

Why Social Media Posts Are Like Free Billboards

Why social media posts are like free billboards

Anytime you post stuff on social media it gets you seen. Depending on how many followers you have and how you use your hashtags you can be seen by a lot of people on every post. This applies to any social media type of post; pins, snaps, tweets, etc. the more people you can get in front of the better. In this article I compare how social media posts can relate to a huge billboard in terms of marketing.

Each Post Is Like A Billboard

Think about it each person that sees your post is like a car going by a billboard. If you have a good social media presence it’s like your billboard is on a super busy road and lots people are seeing it! If you don’t have a good social media presence or a very small audience it is like a billboard on a slow backstreet. Every time you post people will see it. What you decide to put on your billboard (your post) is up to you.

Make It Eye Catching

Because like a billboard on a busy road people are cruising through their social media to find interesting stuff. If it doesn’t catch their attention they will keep cruising and not even pay attention. Make sure that when you post a video, picture, graphic, etc that it will really GRAB their attention!

I know it’s impossible to have every single post be so great that people stop dead in their tracks to look at it and care. The ideal is to do it enough times that it makes an impact. Not every post has to be amazing.

Create some content that will get people talking and engaging. Don’t promote too much. I stick to the 90/10 rule, 90% good helpful and fun content, 10% promoted posts. Sometimes I don’t even promote my site or social media marketing services for a week or two. I just put out the best content I possibly can. I would rather build an audience and build relationships than promote. I think it is more effective in the long run.

Impressions Are The Cars Going By

Each car that goes by a billboard are the views it may receive. That’s why it costs more to put a billboard on a busy road because the potential for more views is there.

Same thing with social media posts, the more impressions the better. You want your post to get in front of as many people as possible. That’s why it is important to build your social media presence! The bigger your audience the bigger your reach. Remember just because there are lots of impressions on a post doesn’t mean all those people really payed attention. It’s just a stat to show you how many people may have seen your post.

“Likes” Are The Actual People Looking At Your Billboard

Think about it, when people like your post they are really paying attention to what you just posted on social media. Like a billboard it’s pretty much like someone driving in a car looking up at your billboard and saying “Cool I like that!” They acknowledged your post and that is very awesome!!

Fun To Be Social

“Comments” Are Them Telling You How Much They Liked Your Billboard

When someone comments they are telling you that they really payed attention to your post. They will let you know what they thought about it or add something to the post with a comment. They might even have something negative to say or disagree. Either way they were intrigued enough to stop and leave a comment!

When people comment it’s like they took the time to email you or call you about your billboard. That means that they really liked it, hated it, or wanted to add to it. All good things because you got their attention!

“Shares” Are Like People Taking Pictures Of Your Billboard And Showing Their Friends

When someone shares your post they really, really like it! They like it so much that they shared it to show others. How cool is that!! I love when people share my posts because for one it will reach more people, and second that means it was good enough to get people to share and that means I added some great value or entertainment for them on that post.

When you apply this to the concept of a billboard it’s like they snapped a picture of your billboard and sent it to their friends to show them the cool billboard they just seen! When they do that people who wouldn’t have seen the billboard before now will get to see it!

Posts and Billboards Are Pretty Similar

They are similar in the fact of how people see your business. I used to pay attention to billboards and think to myself I wonder if the businesses who pay to put those billboards up actually get any results? Some do some don’t I assume.

The point of this article was to show you how social media can be applied to how old school offline marketing was or is. About 15 years ago that was one of the few ways to reach a big audience. Today with social media we can reach big audiences with the click of a mouse and with still very low cost.

We Are Living In A Great Age For Marketing!

Social media has made it so much better and easier to reach large audiences that I think a lot of people don’t realize how lucky we are now. Our capacity to get creative and gain great exposure for business is so much more attainable these days.

A billboard will cost over $1,000 per month in most cities plus set up fees. With social media you can get that same kind or better exposure for free! This goes to show the power of social media in today’s business world.

Work hard and build your social media through posting great content, engaging with your audience, and answering customer questions and you will have some great marketing power right at your fingertips!

Instagram Adds New “Stories” Feature

Instagram Rolls Out New Instagram Stories Feature
Follow us on Instagram also!

If you haven’t payed any attention yet you might not know that Instagram added a new feature called Instagram Stories to their platform. It is very similar to that of Snapchat.

What Is The New Instagram Stories Feature?

It is a lot like Snapchat Stories in which you can create a story out of video and/or pictures. You can then add text and emoji’s to your videos and pictures to make them stand out. The videos and pictures you create only last for 24 hours and they disappear.

New Instagram Stories Feature
New Instagram Stories Feature

Instagram Stories is similar with short videos and lasting only 24 hours before they disappear. This way you can keep posting and put out content without over posting on your Instagram Feed.

Stories will also be seen by a specific algorithm set by Instagram. Basically people you are closer to will see your stories first. Instagram has rolled out an algorithm for the home feed already a few months ago. Since Instagram is owned by Facebook they are heading in the same direction with organic reach in order to get businesses to pay for more people to see their posts.

When Will The New Instagram Stories Feature Be Available?

Instagram just rolled out the new features. I have an android and when I updated the app it was on there. You should have the new Instagram Stories feature as well. If not update your app and it should be on there after the update.

You will see the Instagram Stories at the top of your home feed. All you need to do is click on the profile picture and watch the story. You can also access an Instagram Story by clicking on a profile picture on their actual profile.

If you want to add a picture or video to your story all you have to do is tap the plus (+) button at the top of your home feed. You can also add text, drawing and emoji’s before posting it.

How Can You Use This For Social Media Marketing?

If you have used Snapchat you will know basically how this can be applied to social media marketing. There are no geofilters or custom filters yet so you won’t be able to apply those, but give it time I’m sure it’s coming!

If you haven’t yet used Snapchat and don’t know much about it you will need to get familiar with the Instagram Stories feature first and come up with some FUN ways to use it for social media marketing. It’s not hard just be creative once you get a feel for it. Add some videos of your products, office, storefront, employees, company events, etc. Keep people engaged with great content! The main thing is to keep it FUN!!!! That’s what it’s all about right?? If you aren’t having fun with it you will lose interest fast and give up on it. Here is an article about having fun on social media.  Like any other marketing it is up to you how you want to engage people and how you want them to perceive your business/brand.

What Do I Think?

I think it is great! It is a new way to engage with people on Instagram. It is a new way to get more views on Instagram. The way I see it the more views and impressions the better. Marketing is all about getting in front of people and the new Instagram Stories feature is just another way to reach people. It also give me more ways to be creative and fun.

On the down side it means that I have to basically create stories and post daily on both Snapchat and Instagram. I will continue to do so, but it is more work and more time consuming so that is a negative. Also Snapchat views could go down on my account because more people are using the Instagram Stories. Hopefully there is not much of a decline. Who knows Snapchat may respond with another cool new feature that we can all get excited about in the near future! Social media is always changing and it is always important to keep up on the new changes. As a business owner and a social media marketer it is even more important.

Either way I will think about the positive and I look forward to using the new Instagram Stories feature more and more!

Have you used the new Instagram Stories Feature yet? If so let me know what you think of it and how you use it for social media marketing in the comments below. Thanks for reading and have an amazing day!!

Snapchat Adds New Features!

Snapchat Adding New Features

As we all know social media changes almost daily. Snapchat is now adding some new features that are sure to change the way you Snap!

“Memories” Feature

The new “Memories feature on Snapchat will allow you to now save Snaps. You will be able to search your old Snaps with search and bring them up. With this new feature you will also be able to edit your old Snaps and post them to your Story. This new feature will let you re-purpose Snaps that you really liked and show them off in a new way.

“Memories” will be a new way to save Snaps and Stories on Snapchat.

“You can use Memories to create new Stories from Snaps you’ve taken, or even combine different Stories into a longer narrative!” Snapchat wrote on their blog. “It’s fun to celebrate an anniversary or birthday by finding a few old Snaps and stringing them together into a new Story.”

This will also be a great way to bring old Snaps into your Story for #TBT (Throw Back Thursday)

If you post a Snap taken more than 24 hours ago, it will have a special white border around it to indicate that it’s from the past. This will let people know it is an older Snap. You will be able to edit it and add new filters and time stamps.

Just swipe up from the camera to get to the new “Memories” feature.

“My Eyes Only” Feature

Another new feature of Memories: If you have any content you want to keep private, you can mark it My Eyes Only. This makes it impossible for anyone looking at your Snapchat camera roll to accidentally stumble upon it. Users must enter a pin to access anything marked with the label. You will be able to set the pin up when the “Memories” feature is available.

When Will It Be Available?

You can expect the features to roll out in about a month or so. (Nationwide) Snapchat will send a Snap to let you know when “Memories” is up and active.

Get Creative!

The new “Memories” feature will allow you to be even more creative on Snapchat. If you are in social media marketing or own a business play around with it and find ways you can have fun with it! The cool thing about Snapchat is there are so many ways to engage with your audience while having fun and getting creative. Now Snaps won’t all disappear in 24 hours and can be used again! I think this is going to be pretty cool!!
